How calling out the Home Secretary Priti Patel brings Ben and Jerry’s to the headlines this week.
If you love ice cream, then you’ll be well acquainted with Ben and Jerry’s.
Ben and Jerry’s are a company with a clear social mission, “to make the world a better place.”
It’s unsurprising then, that they are happy to tackle the hard social topics on social media.
This week they’ve made the political headlines for confronting Priti Patel over the migrant crisis happening in the English Channel.
Bringing attention to a public interest issue and putting the company firmly in front of readers’ minds for the right moral reasons.
Not a mention of Caramel Cookie Dough in sight.
Are you using social media in the most beneficial way?
If you’ve heard my talk “Missing Parts of the Social Media Puzzle?“, then you’ll understand how creating a plan and interacting with local causes and businesses can raise your profile, in turn, making your marketing more effective.
Interestingly, Priti Patel, lashed out at the Brand, yet the brand’s following probably has more trust than the Conservative Party at the moment. After all, how many of her promises has Priti delivered? Yet my Caramel Chew Chew always lives up to it’s promises.
In my view, this is exposure as a business, you simply couldn’t pay for. Whilst it may have isolated a small segment of it’s audience, taking a stance will have cemented the Ben and Jerrys brand with it’s target audience.
