What is a business coach?

That’s something I’m often asked at networking events. So let me explain.

Imagine you’re a small business owner, (tough one, right)? You’ve got great skills in your field, but running a business is a whole different ball game. This is where a business coach comes into play. Think of them like a guiding light, helping you navigate through the rough waters of business ownership.

So, what does a business coach do exactly? They’re like that wise friend who’s always got your back. They give you advice, sure, but it’s more than that. They help you see things differently, offering a fresh perspective that’s not clouded by the emotional attachment you have to your business.

It’s like having an experienced business partner on your team who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is.

And leadership – oh, that’s a big one. A coach doesn’t just tell you how to lead; they show you how to be the kind of leader your team needs. You learn to inspire and motivate people, not just manage them. It’s about becoming the kind of leader who makes everyone want to do their best.

Marketing and business management? They’ve got you covered there too. They can help you figure out who your customers are, what they want, and how to reach them. And not just through ads or sales pitches, but by creating a brand that people love and trust.

Have you heard of Michael Gerber’s E-Myth? It’s this idea that many people start businesses because they’re good at something – like a baker starting a bakery. But being good at baking doesn’t automatically make you good at running a bakery. That’s where a business coach can really make a difference. They help you shift from being just a technician to being a full-fledged business owner. They teach you how to work on your business, not just in it.

I remember hearing about a baker who was fantastic at making cakes but struggled to get customers. With a business coach, they learned how to market themselves, manage their team better, and even develop a unique brand. It completely turned their business around.

So, what is a business coach?

In a nutshell, a business coach isn’t just an advisor.

They’re like a growth catalyst for both your business and you as a business owner.

They’re there to help you learn, grow, and turn your business into something you can be proud of.

It’s like having a personal trainer, but for your business!
