How to Create a Podcast Episode: Behind the Scenes of Wired for Success
At first glance, launching a podcast might sound simple. A couple of mics, a good conversation, and hit “record,” right?
Well… not quite.
Behind every episode of Wired for Success is a whole lot more than just a chat in front of a microphone.
In fact, each 40–50 minute conversation you hear (or watch!) is the result of over seven hours of planning, production, editing, blogging, promotion, and distribution.
It’s a proper production—and one designed not just to entertain, but to build visibility for our guests, deliver real value to listeners, and inspire small business owners across the UK.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what really goes into creating a single episode.

🎯 Step 1: Booking and Prep – Starting With a Story
It all begins with a guest booking their session via our online calendar.
To keep things simple and flexible for our guests, we use Google’s online appointment scheduling tool.
It allows each guest to pick a time that suits them best for their in-studio recording session.
They can view live availability, choose from upcoming Thursday or Friday afternoon slots, and get instant confirmation—no back-and-forth emails needed.
Once confirmed, they get a personalised email with:
- Studio location and timings
- A short pre-interview questionnaire
- A quick note on how the session works
That questionnaire helps us get to know their business story—especially the highs, lows, and turning points that have shaped their journey.
Before recording day, we also take time to look through their LinkedIn profile and social media, digging out any interesting nuggets—an unusual first job, a side hustle, a community project—that we can bring up in conversation.
This prep work helps us create a genuine, relaxed chat that feels natural—like two business owners talking shop over coffee.
🎙️ Step 2: Recording Day – Capturing the Conversation
On the day, the guest joins us at our studio in Eversley, near Farnborough, Hampshire.
We use a multi-camera and multi-audio setup to ensure high production quality:
- RodeCaster Pro for multi-track audio
- Rode PodMics for crisp, broadcast-quality voice
- Sony ZV-E10 for wide-angle studio video
- Rode VideoMic Pro as backup audio
- Two Samsung S23 Ultra smartphones filming presenter close-ups
All footage and audio is saved to a high-speed external SSD, ready for editing.
A typical episode can generate:
- ~60GB of 4K video
- ~20GB of uncompressed audio
To put that into perspective:
📱 A full-length HD movie on Netflix (downloaded) is about 1.5 to 3GB.
📸 A high-res photo on your phone is around 2–5MB.
🎧 A typical MP3 music album is about 100MB.
So, a single podcast episode here is the equivalent of downloading 20 full HD movies, or storing around 12,000 photos, or 200 music albums—just for one session!
That’s why we need powerful machines with 64GB RAM and 20TB storage, and professional editing tools to handle it all smoothly.

🧠 Step 3: High-Spec Machines for Heavy Workloads
Podcasting at this level isn’t just about having a good microphone and a quiet room—especially when you’re dealing with multiple video angles, multi-track audio, and 4K footage.
Each Wired for Success episode produces massive files—we’re talking ~60GB of 4K video and ~20GB of high-quality, uncompressed audio.
That kind of content needs serious horsepower behind the scenes.
To handle it all smoothly and without frustration, we’ve invested in two Mac Studio M2 machines, each fitted with:
- 💾 64GB of RAM – This is the memory that lets us keep multiple programs and files running smoothly at once. It’s like having a massive desk with room to spread everything out without getting cluttered.
- 💽 20TB of ultra-fast internal SSD storage – Enough room to store dozens of episodes, footage backups, and all our editing assets, without ever worrying about running out of space.
This setup means we can:
- Run video editing tools like DaVinci Resolve and audio software like Reaper simultaneously
- Sync and process multiple high-res video streams and audio tracks at once
- Work without the system lagging, freezing, or crashing mid-edit—something you’d definitely struggle with on a standard laptop or office PC
For comparison, a basic computer might start choking if you tried to open a few 4K video files at the same time—let alone edit them, add colour grading, subtitles, and export a final cut.
When each episode’s raw content is bigger than most people’s entire phone storage, we can’t afford to mess around with slow systems. These machines are built for speed, stability, and serious creative work.
✂️ Step 4: Editing – Where the Real Work Happens
Recording the conversation is just the beginning. It’s in the editing room where the episode really comes to life—and where the quality goes from “good” to “wow.”
We use Reaper for detailed audio editing and DaVinci Resolve for video editing, colour correction, and syncing. It’s a meticulous process that blends creativity with technical precision.
Here’s what post-production involves:
🎧 Audio Cleanup
We start by diving into the raw audio to clean things up.
That means:
- Removing “umms,” “ahhs,” stumbles, false starts, and awkward pauses
- Cutting out coughs, sneezes, mouth noises, and background sounds (like chairs creaking or phones buzzing)
- Balancing levels between speakers so the audio is clear, even, and pleasant to listen to
- Applying gentle noise reduction, EQ, and compression to give everything that polished, professional finish
🎬 Video Editing
With footage from up to three cameras, syncing everything perfectly is critical—especially when using separate audio tracks for the best sound.
We:
- Sync audio and video manually and using waveform matching
- Adjust camera angles and switch between wide and close-up shots for natural flow
- Frame the visuals, crop where needed, and ensure smooth transitions
- Apply colour grading so each clip looks consistent and vibrant, even when lighting or camera quality varies
- Add on-screen branding, titles, lower thirds, and visual cues
📝 Subtitles and Accessibility
We generate full transcriptions and overlay subtitles on the video.
This not only makes the episode accessible to more people (especially on social platforms where sound is off by default) but also boosts watch time and engagement.
🧩 Final Output Formats
Once polished, we create two final versions:
- A video podcast, published on YouTube
- An audio-only podcast, optimised for Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other platforms
Syncing everything together—video, multiple audio tracks, music beds, visuals—is an art in itself. It’s not just lining up sound with lips; it’s about timing the pacing of the conversation, keeping it flowing naturally, and removing anything that distracts from the message.
By the end, what was once an hour-long raw conversation becomes a tight, focused, story-driven episode that’s as enjoyable to watch as it is to listen to.
And that’s the magic of post-production. 🎬✨

🔗 Step 5: Publishing & SEO – Getting It Out Into the World
Once the episode is edited and polished, it’s time to get it out there for the world to hear (and see!).
We master the final version by adding the intro, outro, music, and any sponsor messages, making sure everything flows smoothly from start to finish.
Then we publish the episode across all the major platforms, including:
✅ Spotify
✅ Apple Podcasts
✅ YouTube
✅ Acast
✅ Mixcloud
✅ Podbean
But hitting “upload” is only part of it—we also carefully craft the show notes for each episode. These are more than just a summary; they help tell your story and make the episode easier to find online.
Each set of show notes includes:
- 📝 A compelling episode description
- 📌 Key discussion points and highlights
- 🙋 A short guest bio
- 🌐 Links to your website and social media profiles
- 🔗 Backlinks to your website
💡 What’s a backlink and why does it matter?
A backlink is a hyperlink from our site (or blog) to your website. It acts as a digital thumbs-up to search engines like Google, signalling that your content is trusted and relevant.
The more quality backlinks you have, the better your SEO—which means more visibility, more traffic, and more potential customers.
It’s just one of the many ways we make sure Wired for Success isn’t just a great listen—it’s a valuable marketing tool for our guests too.
✍️ Step 6: Repurposing – From One Episode to Dozens of Pieces of Content
Once the episode is live, we don’t stop there.
One conversation turns into a powerful stream of content that works across platforms and keeps building visibility for weeks.
First up, we write a dedicated blog post summarising the episode.
It includes:
- A recap of the conversation
- Key takeaways and insights
- Embedded video and podcast players so visitors can watch with ease
- Backlinks to the guest’s website and socials
That blog is published on five different platforms—our own website and trusted partner blogs—to maximise reach and boost SEO for both the guest and the show.
Then comes the creative bit: short-form video content.
We break the full recording down into bite-sized clips that work perfectly for:
🎬 YouTube Shorts
📱 Instagram Reels
📲 TikTok videos
📘 Facebook video posts
Each episode typically produces 15 to 20 short clips, all edited in CapCut and OpusClip.
We add subtitles (so they work with sound off), branded overlays, and catchy hooks to stop people scrolling.
These clips help us reach a wider audience, create interest in the full episode, and give our guests even more content to share with their own networks.
It’s not just one podcast—it’s a full content campaign.

📣 Step 7: Promotion & Distribution
Once the episode is live, it’s time to make sure it gets heard, seen, and shared.
We start by using Publr to schedule and automate social posts across all our platforms—Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X. Each episode is promoted through a steady stream of content: the full episode link, quotes, audiograms, short-form clips, and behind-the-scenes snippets to keep it engaging.
To give every episode a boost, we invest around £200 in Facebook Ads per episode, targeted at small business owners, creatives, and entrepreneurs across Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire, and beyond.
It’s part of a strategy to grow the audience consistently and ensure our guests get real exposure.
But that’s just the digital side.
We also share each episode with our growing Help Me Grow email list, filled with business owners, podcast listeners, clients, and local networkers who love discovering practical insight and inspiration from people doing the work.
And because some of the best conversations still happen in person, we don’t stop there:
- 🎟️ Wired for Success is promoted at First Friday Networking Camberley with printed materials, QR codes, and signage
- 🗣️ We talk about new episodes during networking events, meetings, and workshops
- 💬 We encourage guests and attendees to share their episode with their own audiences too
💼 What’s In It for Us? Why We Invest So Much Into Each Episode
You might be wondering — with all the time, energy, and money that goes into producing each episode of Wired for Success… what’s in it for us?
And that’s a fair question.
Each episode takes around 7 hours of editing and post-production, uses top-tier equipment and software, and is backed by a marketing budget of around £200.
Then our marketing team gets to work, investing multiple hours per episode to:
- Write and schedule multi-platform social campaigns
- Design custom visuals and reels
- Set up and manage paid ads
- Publish show notes, blogs, and backlinks
- Share to our email list and through networking events
- And boost performance across podcast platforms
But beyond just numbers and visibility, this podcast is a chance to raise the profile of Jamie Morgan—not just as a business coach, but as a warm, relatable voice in the world of entrepreneurship.
Each episode showcases who Jamie really is: approachable, experienced, and genuinely passionate about helping small business owners grow.
It allows people to get to know him before they’ve even met him — to hear how he listens, how he asks questions, and how deeply he cares about real stories and practical advice, not just flashy success headlines.
So why do we do it?
Because Wired for Success is part of our bigger mission — to support and elevate small businesses across Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire, and the wider UK.
It’s not just a marketing channel; it’s a platform for people doing great work to be seen, heard, and valued.
Here’s what we gain:
- ✅ Stronger brand visibility with audiences who want growth, not fluff
- 🤝 Deeper relationships with business owners, partners, and potential clients
- 🚀 Increased authority and credibility in the entrepreneurial space
- 📈 SEO value and steady web traffic from blogs, backlinks, and embeds
- 🎯 A stream of warm leads who already trust what we stand for
- 💬 Genuinely useful content to share at events, online, and with our audience
- 🌟 A real way to give back by spotlighting others and sharing their success
It’s a podcast, yes—but more than that, Wired for Success is about creating connection, celebrating local businesses, and making support feel accessible.
Because we’re not here to be just another voice shouting about hustle—we’re here to build something that helps real people grow.
In the very first episode of Wired for Success, host Jamie Morgan sets the tone for what’s to come—real, honest conversations about business, mindset, and what success really looks like.
Inspired by Zig Ziglar’s belief that we’re all born to win (if we plan, prepare, and act like it), Jamie dives into the motivations behind the podcast, the lessons he’s learned as an entrepreneur, and why sharing these stories matters now more than ever.
